Main apple fruit color Desirable:

- at consumer ripeness (when the whole fruit ripens, becomes fragrant) - rich yellow.

- P-active substances - three hundred and eighty milligrams per hundred grams of raw product.
The level of resistance to cold and various diseases
The Zhelannoye apple variety has a satisfactory level of cold resistance, which is higher than that of most other apple varieties. In the record-breaking cold winter seasons, namely in 1994-95, with a temperature regime of minus thirty-seven degrees, the damage to apple trees was estimated at one point.
Apple tree Desired: landing

- Time and Scheme
It is recommended to plant apple trees of the Zhelannoye variety in the spring season, approximately at the end of the second spring month, or in the first weeks of the last spring month.
Fruit trees grow strongly, they are planted in the soil, with a groundwater level of at least three hundred centimeters.A site is selected that has a sufficient amount of sunlight, and the soil must have neutral properties and qualities.
About thirty days before planting the planting material, make planting holes about sixty centimeters deep, up to one hundred twenty centimeters wide. Pay attention to the fact that the landing holes are four hundred to four hundred and fifty centimeters apart from each other, and the rows have a distance of five hundred to six hundred centimeters.
- Process
Mix the first layer of soil removed from the planting hole with organic components: humus and mullein.
Place a tree peg in the center of the planting hole, it should be fifty centimeters above the soil surface. Pour soil mixed with top dressing into the planting hole.
After about thirty days, the soil will settle. Prepare planting material, place the seedling with its root system for six hours in a container with liquid.
Carefully place the planting material in the planting hole on the south side of the installed peg, straighten the root system, tie it to the peg using a soft twine. Pour out the soil, however, so that the root collar is above the soil. Compact the soil a little.
From the bottom layer of the removed soil, make a roller near the planting material in order to make it more convenient to moisten the apple tree, and the liquid reached one hundred percent under the soil at the trunk. Moisten the seedling with two to three containers of liquid.
Immediately after planting, the apple trees are moistened once every seven days until the last summer month and it is observed that the twine does not press on the bark. The pegs are removed twenty-four months later immediately after disembarkation.
Apple tree Desired: variety care
- Moisturizing
On especially dry days, thoroughly moisten the apple trees, and in the presence of prolonged rainfall, then loosen the soil under the apple trees so that air can flow to the root system in the right amount. It is recommended to use a crowbar to loosen the soil forty centimeters deep, moving fifty centimeters away from the near-barrel part. Alternatively, loosen the soil with a pitchfork without turning it over.
Recommendation! In the presence of hot days, you can moisten the apple trees once every seven days at night using sprinkling.
- Fertilizer
The desired apple tree begins to fertilize when it reaches the age of two or three years, because until this age the apple trees have enough fertilizing introduced during planting.
By the last week of the second spring month, pour five hundred grams of mullein or urea around the fruit tree.
When the buds of the fruit tree begin to open, then add the preparation with urea, potassium sulfate and superphosphate or nitroammophoska preparation.
Before and after using dressings, it is recommended to thoroughly moisturize the apple trees.
When the crop is poured, then fertilize the apple trees with sodium gamate and nitrophoska.
In the fall season (with heavy rains), immediately after harvesting, pour potassium sulfate and superphosphate onto the ground. In dry conditions, mix these ingredients in liquid and moisten the apple trees.
Preparing for the winter season

Use wire brushes or scrapers to brush away any lichen, infested bark or old bark as it can carry parasites in the winter season. Peel off the standard bark on the main skeletal shoots. Wounds must be treated with garden varnish.
Then treat the apple trees of the Zhelannoye variety with a five percent preparation of iron vitriol, using five hundred grams per ten-liter container of liquid. This is done in dry and calm weather, taking a respirator and goggles.
Create a layer of mulch near the trunk using humus and peat. It is necessary to whitewash the trunk of young trees with chalk, and for mature trees with lime.
Pruning and shaping the crown
Pruning branches in the spring season before the onset of the process of moving the juice. The branches of this variety of apple trees do not grow often, because of this they do not need to be thinned abundantly.
Note! Wipe the saw cut with paint or garden varnish.
Apple tree Zhelannoe: pollinators of the variety
It is recommended to purchase the following varieties that will pollinate your apple tree:
- Antonovka.
- "Stark erlist".
- "Suispeskuyu".
- "Bellefleur Chinese".
Ripening and yield
The beginning of the harvesting process and the timing of the flowering process
The desired apple variety is medium-fruited. Brings apples, reaching the age of six to eight years. The fruit tree begins to bloom at the end of the period from March to May.
- The timing of the onset of ripeness and the content of the crop
Harvested at the end of the summer - early autumn season, this type of apple is late summer. Fruits are stored for ninety days, but it is possible to keep them longer.
- Dwarf and semi-dwarf stock in use
Due to the fact that apple trees grow large in size, as a result, there is little free space in the plots, apple trees are allowed to be cultivated on semi-dwarf and dwarf rootstocks.
Apple trees Desirable with a height of up to three hundred centimeters and early maturity.
Fruit trees on a semi-dwarf rootstock are planted in soil with a groundwater level of at least two hundred and fifty centimeters, on a dwarf rootstock they are planted in soil with a groundwater level of at least one hundred and fifty centimeters.
Fruits on a semi-dwarf or dwarf rootstock must be planted following a space two hundred fifty to three hundred centimeters from each other.
Summing up
The apple variety Zhelannoye has a dessert taste. This variety has a high level of cold resistance, just like the most popular apple varieties.
This variety grows at a fast pace, however, if there is not enough free space on your site, then you can buy planting material on semi-dwarf or dwarf rootstocks.
Apple tree Zhelannoe: reviews of gardeners

- Kristina Vasilievna, Leningrad region: “The apple variety Zhelannoye evokes mixed emotions in me. On the one hand, the harvest has an amazing appearance, and the Zhelannoe apple trees themselves have a high level of resistance to cold. At the same time, these apple trees grow quite strongly upward, which makes the harvesting process very difficult. "
- Marina Alexandrovna, Moscow region: “Zhelannoye apples are very tasty, I would even say - this is one of the most delicious apple varieties that I have eaten. It is also very attractive that the Zhelannoye apple tree survives the cold much more strongly than most popular varieties of apple trees, I know firsthand ”.
